Yoruba Records Showcase Ft Osunlade & Mike Steva (Fri 05/06)

Geisha Bar & {MOVE} are proud to present a Yoruba Records showcase…

…featuring the legendary afro-spiritual house master OSUNLADE and one of Melbourne’s leading purveyors of the deep house sound MIKE STEVA.

Plus special guests SALUT BARBUT (The Monarchy, Le Club) and S.N.B. (Habitat)

A master of the afro-centric spiritual house sound, Osunlade is both a world renown DJ and a priest of the Yoruba religion of Ifá. His music has a deep spiritual root in Yoruba traditions and his DJ sets move dance-floors around the world through a global journey in rhythm and sound.

Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. He composed music for Sesame Street during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Afterward, he moved to Los Angeles, California, where he worked with disco and jazz legends such as such as Patti Labelle and Freddie Jackson. Moving to New York in the late 90s, he founded the now legendary afro-house label, Yoruba Records. To date he has worked with such artists as Roy Ayers, Nkemdi, Salif Keita, and Cesária Évora.

Mike Steva is a DJ & Producer whose true love of music and life radiates from his soul. The debut album titled ‘Who Am I’ on Yoruba Records is an album inspired by Steva’s roots, influences and musical journey up till now. After signing his Visions Of Paradise EP to Yoruba Records back in 2012, label founder and idiosyncratic electronic artist Osunlade has been one of Stevaʼs staunchest supporters. “As with all our releases we take pride in the development of artistsʼ freedom” says Osunlade of the project. “Mike has managed to do what most new artists havenʼt, create a complete musical story, full of soul and sounds from his homeland of Macedonia, as well as soon to be house classics.”
