Geisha Bar’s 17th Birthday Feat Kevin Saunderson

On Saturday January 16, 17 years to the day, we celebrate Geisha Bar’s 17th Birthday.

Joining us to celebrate the occasion will be House and Techno royalty Kevin Saunderson. Respected and acknowledged around the World as one of the three Detroit Techno innovators, (alongside Derrick May and Juan Atkins) Kevin Saunderson is a legend in his own right, Kevin has also formed a number of House projects most notably Inner City which had hits such as “Big Fun” and “Good Life”, “Ain’t Nobody Better”, through to “Hallelujah”, “Pennies From Heaven”, “Till We Meet Again”, “Do Ya”, “Your Love” (to name but a few), songs that went on to become classics.  What better way to celebrate 17 years of House then with the “Elevator” one of the greatest ambassadors for techno to come out of Detroit.

The birth of Geisha Bar
What started as a twinkle in Mardie Wilson’s eye quickly became full-fledged ambition. The idea was further refined at a dinner party, that included amongst others Annie Carr (the creative force and original manager behind Aqua), and the name “Geisha Bar” was conceived.
Months of intense negotiations proceeded for the sale of what was then Krush, after which began then the process of renovating. Saxon was appointed Head DJ and the music policy was decided. The chronological order of these events may not be correct but what we do know is that on the 16th of January 1999 the doors to Geisha Bar opened.
