Geisha’s 18th Birthday & Membership Launch featuring Monkey Safari (Fri 20/01)

Geisha’s 18th Birthday & Membership Launch featuring Monkey Safari

On Friday January 20 we celebrate! We celebrate 18 years of Geisha Bar. 18 years of parties, 18 years of amazing local and international DJs and most importantly 18 years of non-stop House, not bad for a club in the most isolated city in the world. This last year we have seen performances from Âme, DJ Tennis, Skream, Kevin Saunderson, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Cassian, Deetron, Lancelot, Late Night Tough Guy/HMC, Sonny Fodera, Shift K3y, Marcel Vogel, Alex Niggemann, Format B, Mat.Joe, Frank Booker, Weiss, Anna, Sinden, Gene Farris, Dicky Trisco, Pele & Shawnecy, Sante, Phil Kieran, Re: You, Dale Howard, Eli B, Latmun, Scuba, Ben UFO, Finnebassen, Kolsch and Carl Craig. What a year it has been, we even picked up an award this year, thanks Inthemix.

To join us for our celebrations, with their 4th visit to Perth, is Geisha bar’s friends Monkey Safari. The Monkey Safari boys, their music, their art and their club Charles Bronson have been a big inspiration to us here at Geisha Bar. That inspiration was pivotal in both The Funktion 1 sound system and the Photo booth.

The German outfit has been on an incredible run of form since their last visit. Monkey Safari’s remix for Marc Houle’s “Pepper” on Richie Hawtin’s label Minus and their hugely successful “Cranes” and “Walls“ EPs presented opportunities for Monkey Safari to work with some exciting musicians, such as Wolf + Lamb, Kölsch, techno heavy weights Guy Gerber and Josh Wink, as well as one of dance music’s most iconic producers, Moby. The boys have maintained a heavy touring schedule with some standout slots include Time Warp USA & Germany aswell as appearing at Awakenings Festival.

Their mandate remains the same, sending sunny vibes to make even the darkest dance floors smile.

The Birth of Geisha Bar

What started as a twinkle in Mardie Wilson’s eye quickly became full-fledged ambition. The idea was further refined at a dinner party, that included amongst others Annie Carr (the creative force and original manager behind Aqua), and the name “Geisha Bar” was conceived.
Months of intense negotiations proceeded for the sale of what was then Krush, after which began then the process of renovating. Saxon was appointed Head DJ and the music policy was decided. The chronological order of these events may not be correct but what we do know is that on the 16th of January 1999 the doors to Geisha Bar opened.
