JESSE ROSE
Born at the tail end of the 1970s in London’s Ladbroke Grove, as a boy Jesse was raised on a healthy dose of Motown soul, jazz and eighties funk. From humble beginnings, and with solid determination, Jesse began making music at the tender age of 14. Moving to Bristol in the early 90’s, he was soon DJing and running club nights together with his close friend Jamie Anderson, and quickly earned a reputation as an up and coming talent.
By 1997, Jesse moved back to London, subsequently meeting the man that would truly change him from DJ to producer: Dave ‘Switch’ Taylor. Their first collaborations caught the eye of key Chicago house producer Derrick Carter, leading to a string of releases on his ‘Classic’ label. Jesse’s work on Switch’s ‘Dubsided’ saw the development of the house genre by mixing & dropping sounds from other genres instead of mere looping, resulting in some of his biggest hits such as ‘A-Sided’ & ‘You’re All Over My Head’. Jesse learnt his craft as a DJ cutting his teeth with regular slots at London super club Fabric.
The year 2000 marked the inception of Jesse’s first label, ‘Front Room Recordings’, then came his second label ‘Made to Play’, conceived in 2005, the label has turned into a powerhouse for unearthing and nurturing new talent, churning out hit records like Riva Starrs’ ‘I was drunk’ and making stars out of its artists. Jesse fashioned a distinct Balkan-style sub-genre of house adopted as the defining sound of Made to Play, influencing the likes of Yolanda be Cool. Jesse brought this trademark off-kilter house sound to Berlin and beyond with global residencies at Panorama Bar (Berlin) The Social Club (Paris), Hive (Zurich), Fabric (London), Avalon (Los Angeles) and Womb (Tokyo), as well as to thousands of revelers at leading festivals around the world such as Creamfields, Parklife, Exit and Melt. In 2009 Jesse released his debut solo album entitled ‘What Do You Do If you Don’t?’ which received album on the
month in numerous magazines, the album include the the hit singles ‘Touch My Horn’ & ‘Well Now’, as well as an ode to Jesse from Hotchip ‘Forget my Name’.
Jesse’s production prowess saw him go the next step and produce Hot Chip in 2010 for their single entitled ‘Build a House’, the first ever production not tailored by the band themselves. 2010 also saw Jesse launch his third imprint; ‘Play it Down,’ which despite it’s no press approach has already recieved the number one selling beatport release for 2011 & the hight charted record ever on R.A. Following the staggering popularity of Jesse and Henrik Schwarz’s live project; ‘Black Rose’, they released “Anthem’ in 2011 which received Radio One’s ‘Essential New Tune’ accolade.
Continued international touring schedule aside, in early 2011 Jesse relocated to L.A and in 2012 has working on a new solo album as well as producing the title track for ‘Chiddy Bang’s’ top ten billboard selling album ‘Breakfast music’ and working with the likes of Switch, Amanda Blank, Chuck Inglish (Cool Kids), Aloe Blacc, Photek, Mansions on the Moon and many more. In the midst of all of this Jesse has found time to curate his Made for the Night shows across the world. There are not many artists who can claim productions credits with some of the worlds hottest talents, play the globes biggest festivals & then turn up and play the most respected uderground club & festivals in the same career, Jesse in this respect can be called an ‘anomaly.
