(DJ International) TYREE COOPER!!
_
Few DJs can claim to have been instrumental to the birth of a genre, but things narrow down even further when said genre is considered a cornerstone in the development of electronic music as we know it today. We’re talking hiphouse here, of which Chicago-born DJ Tyree Cooper is undeniably one of the founding fathers.
Growing up on the streets of Chicago’s South Side Tyree Cooper discovered his love for the soul music of the 60ies. Tyree Cooper is now considered as one of the most influential artists in the international house scene. The first 12″ – “I Fear The Night“ (with female vocalist ‘Chic’) – promptly became an underground classic in Chicago.
Other hits followed: “Acid Over“(1987), “’Let’s Get Hyped“ (feat. Kool Rock Steady, 1989), “Let the Music Take Control“(1989) and “Hardcore Hip House“ (1989). “Turn Up The Bass“ (1988) is surely one of the most important hip house tracks of all times. In 1999 Epic/ Sony Music released it with the original and some new remix versions.
Since 1994 Tyree owns, manages and produces for his record label Supa Dupa Records. Jack the Box is his new project together with Bobby Starr. In September 2012 Moodmusic released their first single collaboration: “Jack the Box presents: The Tyree Cooper and Bobby Starrr EP”. In addition to his own productions, Tyree is often requested to remix tracks and showcase his MC skills for other producers including Ben Sims and Tom Trago on labels like Ovum Recordings and Rush Hour.
Today Tyree’s international solo touring schedule includes performances at Ministry Of Sound (London), Trouw Club (Amsterdam), Studio 80 (Amsterdam), Batofar (Paris), Panorama Bar (Berlin) and many, many other. He also has a residency at Berns Club (Stockholm) and furthermore he does regular parties together with Bobby Starr at Tresor Club and Katerholzig (Berlin).
