Akika says: Dumb and Dumber
Why are people worried about Trump? They should be far more concerned about Mike Pence.
Not only do they appear to share the same bottle of fake tan, Trump and Pence also share an alarming aversion to scientific fact and critical thinking.
Pence was Trump’s running mate (a term which kind of makes them sound like a couple of racehorses), and so will now be the Vice-President-elect of the United States. Whilst Trump’s win was a crushing blow; he is almost merely a bumbling foible when compared to Pence.
As far as mediocre white dudes living in the past go, you can’t really get more whitebread than Mike Pence. An ex-president of a frat house, he firmly supports all of Trump’s ideas, and has a long CV of actions in his political career that shows he means business. In 1988 he used political donations to pay for his golf tournaments and personal credit card bill expenses, and has worked tirelessly to pretty much be a dick at all times, politically speaking. As Governor of Indiana, he has done his darndest to ensure that the coal industry remains at the top, repeatedly supressing renewable energy progression, and refusing to support Obama’s Clean Power Plan.
Of course, none of the above seems all that crazy when you consider that the guy doesn’t believe in climate change, stating that “the earth is actually cooler today than it was about 50 years ago” (because that’s definitely how global warming works, you dumb fuck) and voting to cut funding to climate change education, while also prohibiting the Environmental Protection Agency from regulating greenhouse gas emissions. He’s got a hell of a pin-dick boner for fossil fuels.
Then again, why would he believe in climate change if he doesn’t even believe in evolution (and most legitimate actual science, for that matter)? Pence proudly boasts an IQ of 8, stating that “I believe with all my heart that God created the heavens and the earth, the seas and all that’s in them … I also believe that someday scientists will come to see that only the theory of intelligent design provides even a remotely rational explanation for the known universe.”
Okay, so maybe you don’t give a shit about science, climate change or what the leaders of the free world think about it – Pence’s thoughts on medical policy may be a little more stimulating for you.
Is he keen for stem cell research to progress? Nope.
Does he believe smoking is harmful? Nope.
Does he believe women have the right to abortion? Nope.
Unfortunately, when it comes to the USA, it isn’t “just another country” whose politics do not affect the rest of the world. We should be concerned because USA has just voted in Damo and Darren to lead the free world for the next four years, which is a length of time that we do not, as a planet, have available to waste when it comes to climate change action.
When will people learn? Keep religion out of politics and the law. Simple.
