“Gratitude for the Godfather of House”
Such an exquisitely fitting tribute to Frankie Knuckles on Friday night. The vibe was wonderfully familial – everyone united by an ardent passion for music. Many a person admitting they hadn’t been out in over 5 years!
Each person I spoke to wanted to share their treasured memories of falling madly in love with electronic music – especially house. There were stories of sneaking out on school nights, padding beds with pillows. There were tales of playing support to some of the biggest names in the industry. There were memories of cramping up so badly from dancing, that a mad dash into a restaurant for salt was required! I was completely wide-eyed and entranced by these fabulous retellings.
I don’t know if even I have the words to describe the wonderful music. Fantastic sets rolled on, one after the other in funky perfection. The moment Your Love dropped, and the place erupted with dancing bodies, cheering, and singing I thought to myself, “Maybe this is what smiles in the sunshine sound like”.
The night was such an outstanding homage to the Godfather – a god among men. 1980’s and 1990’s house music is the cat’s pyjamas!
Have a fabulous week guys and dolls, and see you soon in the House of House!
